Parties and observers reflected on the history of the convention, its added value in the international legal arsenal, its successes and unprecedented challenges in the fight against falsified and substandard medicines.

On December 2, during the second day of the plenary meeting, Ariane Allin, Director of Operations at Brazzaville Foundation, presented to the Committee of the Parties and the audience the achievements and future actions of the Lomé Initiative in the fight against falsified and substandard medicines (FSM) in Africa. The Foundation invited the Committee of the Parties and the observers to take part in the review of the legislative audit conducted in 2020 and 2021 in partnership with the international law firm Allen & Overy in order to take stock of the legislation to fight against trafficking of FIVDs in each country, and to initiate a comparative legislation exercise in order to harmonize these legislations at the international level

On the same day, an anniversary video released at the event featured a message from Richard Amalvy, Chief Executive of Brazzaville Foundation, congratulating the Committee of Parties to the MEDICRIME Convention on the work accomplished since its creation in 2011 and affirming the willingness to collaborate jointly to fight the trafficking of medicines that persists in Africa.
