The Brazzaville Foundation becomes a member of CoNGO

20201201-CoNGO

The Foundation joins the Conference of organisations non-governmental organizations in consultative relationship with the United Nations (CoNGO) in order to participate in discussions and decision-making within the United Nations system.

CoNGO is an independent, international, not-for-profit organisation with a membership of approximately 400 organisations non-governmental organizations. Its origins go back to the role played by NGOs in the founding of the United Nations and the concept of "We the Peoples of the United Nations" with which the UN Charter begins. It is currently chaired by the Reverend Liberato Bautista, who is also the Deputy Secretary General of the General Board of Church and Society (GBCS).

Shortly after its creation, the UN encouraged non-governmental organisations to apply for "consultative status" through a "Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations" established by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), a status the Brazzaville Foundation has enjoyed since August 2018.

Richard Amalvy, Chief Executive of the Foundation, was Vice President of CoNGO in 2008-2010, in his capacity as representative of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (Organisation ), of which he was then Director of External Relations.
