Fighting terrorism in Africa: Creation of the AGS Foundation

On 11 and 12 February in Oyo, the creation of the Africa Global Security (AGS) Foundation, dedicated to the fight against terrorism on the African continent, was at the heart of the discussion between Presidents Denis Sassou-Nguesso of the Republic of Congo and host of the meeting, Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and Faure Gnassingbe of Togo.

On 13 February, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould El-Ghazaouani spoke by telephone with his counterparts in Congo and with Senegalese President Macky Sall: this foundation of public utility and Senegalese law will be headquartered in Dakar. The conversation continued on 14 February in the Senegalese capital with Presidents Museveni and Maky Sall.

 

The AGS Foundation will be open to all African states that subscribe to its objectives. It will enable an in-depth exchange of information to improve the foreign and security policies of member states, and to build a safer, more stable continent and world.

 

The project had been under discussion for nearly a year. Former Ugandan Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi was present at the Oyo and Dakar meetings, which were also attended by Jean-Yves Ollivier, an international mediator who will be vice president in charge of international relations. The latter is also Founding Chairman of the Brazzaville Foundation and Mr. Mbabazi is a member of its Advisory Board.
