This visit to Ukraine was preceded by a successful trip to the Russian Federation in December 2022, during which Foundation representatives met with Russian government officials in Moscow.

A London-based civil society organization, the Brazzaville Foundation's main objective is to promote peace through conflict resolution. In the case of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, it is playing a facilitating role in response to the request of several African heads of state who have launched an initiative aimed at a process of peaceful dialogue and a rapid end to the conflict in Ukraine.

From Kyiv, the Foundation's delegation will travel to Addis Ababa, on the margins of the African Union summit, to brief the African heads of state involved.

H.E. President Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of Nigeria, who is also Advisory Board Member of Brazzaville Foundation, was supposed to lead the delegation to Kyiv, but was prevented from doing so by other commitments. He will be part of the delegation that will report to the relevant African Heads of State in Addis Ababa.
