Niger ratifies the MEDICRIME Convention

The Republic of Niger is stepping up its fight against falsified medicines by ratifying the Council of Europe's MEDICRIME Convention, just a few weeks after signing it on February 19.

This legal instrument, which is binding in the area of criminal law, criminalizes the counterfeiting, manufacture and distribution of medical products on the market without authorisation or in violation of safety standards.

The Brazzaville Foundation supports Lomé Initiative signatory countries in ratifying international treaties and conventions (African Medicines Agency, MEDICRIME), as provided for in the political declaration signed in January 2020, and in setting up national plans to combat counterfeit medicines at national level as part of the programme 2022-2024 work plan approved by the stakeholders.
