COP29: Jean-Yves Ollivier supports advocacy for the preservation of the Congo Basin

12 November, Baku - Jean-Yves Ollivier, Founding Chairman of the Brazzaville Foundation, attended COP29 in support of the African Union's Congo Basin Climate Commission (CBCC). As Ambassador of the Congo Basin Blue Fund, he emphasised the role of African countries in the fight against climate change, in the presence of the President of the Republic of Congo, H.E. Denis Sassou N'Guesso. He also exchanged views with public and private players on sustainable solutions for preserving the planet's second lung.

As a reminder, the Brazzaville Foundation initiated the creation of the Blue Fund. In 2016, its experts produced a pre-study, suggesting that Congo Basin countries collaborate at sub-regional level to preserve this exceptional ecosystem while inventing another development model. It was on the basis of this study that the Blue Fund was launched at COP22 in Marrakech, on the initiative of H.E. Denis Sassou N'Guesso, President of the Republic of Congo, with the support of H.M. King Mohammed VI of Morocco. In 2021, the Foundation co-developed the fund's advocacy and marketing communications strategy and created the pavilion presenting the Blue Fund at COP26.
