The arrival of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in South Africa, officially welcomed by President Cyril Ramaphosa, marks an important and positive step in African efforts to mediate the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. This first official visit to the continent is directly in line with the dynamic set in motion by the African facilitation of Ukraine-Russia dialogue supported by the Brazzaville Foundation.

Since 2023, this mission, led by six African heads of state, has opened up an unprecedented forum for dialogue, based on neutrality and the desire to build bridges between the parties. The process has already led to several breakthroughs, and the meeting between Presidents Ramaphosa and Zelensky is one of the concrete results. The growing recognition of this initiative underlines the important role that Africa can play in promoting peace and international diplomacy.
