From December 1st to 3rd, the Brazzaville Foundation was present, as an observer, at the 5th plenary meeting of the Committee of the Parties of the Council of Europe's MEDICRIME Convention in hybrid format. This meeting was an opportunity to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the convention.

The parties and observers reviewed the history of the convention, its added value in the international legal arsenal, its successes and the unprecedented challenges in the fight against falsified and substandard medicines.

On December 2, during the second day of the plenary meeting, Ariane Allin, Director of Operations at Brazzaville Foundation, presented to the Committee of the Parties and the audience the achievements and future actions of the Lomé Initiative in the fight against falsified and substandard medicines (FSM) in Africa. The Foundation invited the Committee of Parties and observers to take part in the re-reading of the legislative audit to be carried out in 2020 and 2021 in partnership with the international law firm Allen & Overy to take stock of the legislation in place to combat trafficking of MQIF in each country, and to embark on a comparative legislation exercise to harmonize this legislation at international level.

On the same day, an anniversary video broadcast at the event featured a message from Richard Amalvy, Chief Executive of Brazzaville Foundation, congratulating the Committee of the Parties to the MEDICRIME Convention on the work accomplished since its creation in 2011, and affirming the willingness to collaborate jointly to combat the trafficking medicines that persist in Africa.
