On 20 June in Brazzaville, a meeting took place between President Denis Sassou Nguesso, who heads the African Union's High-Level Committee on Libya, Sheikh Farhat Jaabiri, spiritual leader of the Ibadites, and the Brazzaville Foundation Chairman Jean-Yves Ollivier.

For the latter, the sheikh, "who rarely travels", was in Brazzaville to assure the Congolese president of the Ibadite community's support for the African Union's action on Libya.
"As the Ibadite community, we are trying to work for an African solution to the Libyan crisis. This is our point of convergence with President Denis Sassou N'Guesso," explained Sheikh Jaabiri who visited the Congolese capital at the invitation of Jean-Yves Ollivier. He is expected to introduce Libyan leaders close to his community to the Congolese president during the summit of theOrganisation International Francophonie which will take place in Djerba in November 2021.
The complexity of the Libyan conflict calls for the exploration of new avenues in the search for peace. The Ibadites, who are distinguished by their rigorous practice of Islam, are traditionally very open to inter-religious dialogue.
