In an article by journalists David Pilling and Neil Munshi published in the Financial Times dated June 22, 2020, President Macky Sall returned to the considerable economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic in the country and its management by the Senegalese government.
In this time of search for a cure, he also drew attention to the need for Africa to beware of fake medicines entering the supply chain, which account for between 50 and 60 percent of medicines in circulation on the continent. He told the Financial Times: "These drugs do not cure. On the contrary, they are silent killers."
To address this issue, Senegal has ratified the Lomé Initiative against Fake Medicines, launched on 17 and 18 January by the Brazzaville Foundation and the Republics of Congo, Ghana, Uganda, Senegal and Togo in Lomé.
