Falsified medicines in Africa: Foulo Basse, guest on the Unlocking Africa podcast
The Chief Executive of the Brazzaville Foundation, Foulo Basse, was the guest on episode 214 of the Unlocking Africa podcast, hosted by Terser Adamu. In this discussion on the trafficking falsified medicines in Africa, Foulo Basse highlighted the scale of this silent health crisis, which costs lives, weakens health systems, and fuels transnational criminal networks. He emphasized that the increase in seizures does not necessarily reflect a victory, but rather reveals the extent of the phenomenon. The episode also highlights the importance of the Lomé Initiative and the need for African states to strengthen their legal arsenal, in particular by ratifying the Medicrime Convention, in order to effectively criminalise the trafficking falsified medicines.
