Fake medicines: Strengthening collaboration between the Republic of Congo and the Brazzaville Foundation

Gaborone, 31 August 2023 - During the 73rd session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa held in Gaborone, a crucial working session took place between Brigadier General Gilbert Mokoki, Minister of Health of the Republic of Congo, members of his Cabinet in attendance, and the Brazzaville Foundation. The meeting highlighted the continuing commitment of the founding countries of the Lomé Initiative to the fight against substandard and falsified medical products (SFMP) in Africa. The Minister of Health testified to the importance the Congolese government attaches to this vital fight for public health.

One of the key points of the working session was the discussion of the organisation of an international seminar in January 2024 in Brazzaville, on strengthening the normative framework to combat SFMP, in collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for Africa, and the development of a side event during the 74th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa, to be held in Brazzaville in August 2024. This event will showcase the best practices of member countries of the Lomé Initiative countries, while mobilising a regional and international audience.
