Foulo Basse: "Without strong action, fake medicines will continue to kill silently"
In an interview with Africa Briefing, Foulo Basse, Chief Executive of the Brazzaville Foundation, sounds the alarm about the proliferation of counterfeit medicines on the African continent, which he describes as a "trade that kills". The Foundation calls for the ratification of the Medicrime Convention, the adoption of stricter laws, the strengthening of regulatory authorities and the launch of large-scale awareness-raising campaigns. In Togo, a pilot project has created a robust legal and operational framework to combat trafficking. Senegal, supported by the Foundation, is becoming a regional model thanks to a multi-sectoral commitment.
